Limited Space Started Interfering with Business Growth

Business had been going well at the Port Washington State Bank branch in Cedarburg, Wisconsin for many years.  Revenue was climbing steadily, and they had established themselves as a valuable member of the tight-knit downtown community.

In fact, business was going so well that the bank found themselves growing out of the space they had.  Offices were starting to feel too small, finishes were starting to wear, and meeting space was lacking.  These issues started to hinder staff productivity, and it was clear that something needed to be done soon.  If their hard-earned reputation in the community were to suffer, it would affect their ability to achieve continued growth in one of their key markets.

Unlocking More Space from a Challenging Site

But finding more usable space was going to be a challenge.  The bank is located on a small corner lot in the middle of a busy downtown district and nearly all the existing space was already being used for parking and vehicle circulation.

E3 Architecture helped the bank to find the space they needed by re-purposing a small landscaping area into a new building addition.  Staff productivity dramatically increased with the additional space for optimized offices and work areas.

A pair of undersized offices were converted into much needed meeting space.  And when combined with the latest technology integrations, this new meeting space gave their staff exactly what they needed to service more customers and close more business.

Seamlessly Blending New Improvements with the Historic Charm

The city of Cedarburg takes great pride in the historic downtown district, and it’s carefully protected by the Historic Preservation Commission.  Project approval in this district often takes months to obtain. But E3 Architecture expertly advocated for the design and worked closely with city staff to quickly secure the required approvals, avoiding costly delays to the project schedule.

Carefully blending new elements into the existing design created seamless results that amplified the best parts of the historic interior, which were revered by the bank and its customers. The new meeting space was integrated into the design while preserving the beloved historic photo mural above. Adding an antique pedestal clock in the lobby contributed to the richness of the interior and was inspired by Cedarburg’s historic street clocks.

Enhancing the Customer Experience

One of the major challenges in retail settings is keeping customers engaged and interested long enough to encourage a purchase.  Upgrading amenities is a great way to entice customers to linger, and as a result, provide more retail opportunities.

E3 Architecture revitalized the bank’s waiting area with new finishes, comfortable seating, and a refreshment station that nicely complement the cozy fireplace.

More and more customers are choosing to stick around to enjoy a hot cup of coffee or a freshly baked cookie. And as a result, the bank is enjoying more opportunities to connect with these customers and educate them about new service offerings.

Client Praise

“We were very proud of our existing building but after 17 years since our last remodel, we needed to freshen it up, add space, and utilize certain spaces differently.”

“Matt was able to keep us in place where we feel at home and deliver the key ingredients we needed while maintaining the presence and elegance of our property in Cedarburg. We could not be more pleased.”

“Our clients are happy with the improved size of the offices, modern amenities and personal touches. Our staff is delighted with the space utilization, new flex spaces, and employee amenities. The community is happy to see us investing in the downtown and remaining in place. It's working out great!”
